Scholarships & Financial Aid
BIMI believes that financial barriers should not prevent talented, motivated students from accessing a world-class medical education. Our scholarships and financial aid programmes are designed to recognise academic excellence, support students from disadvantaged financial backgrounds, and ensure that BIMI remains accessible to the most capable students — regardless of their economic circumstances.
All scholarship decisions are made by the BIMI Scholarship Committee, which operates independently of the Admissions Office to ensure fairness and transparency. Scholarships are competitive — applying does not guarantee receipt, and meeting the minimum criteria does not automatically award a scholarship. Applications are ranked and awarded based on the strength of the overall case presented.
1. BIMI Academic Excellence Scholarship
Overview
The BIMI Academic Excellence Scholarship is BIMI's flagship merit-based award, recognising exceptional academic achievement at the senior secondary level. It is available to new entrant students in Year 1 and is renewable annually subject to continued academic performance.
| Scholarship Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Award Value | 25% reduction on annual tuition fees (applied to all 6 years if renewed) |
| Number of Awards | Up to 10 per intake cohort (exact number determined annually by the Scholarship Committee) |
| Eligibility | Minimum 85% aggregate in PCB at senior secondary level (or equivalent grade profile). NEET score of 550+ for Indian applicants. |
| Application Method | Separate scholarship application form submitted alongside the main admission application |
| Decision Timeline | Within 14 days of full application submission |
| Renewal Criteria | Maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0) in each academic year. Failure to maintain this standard results in scholarship suspension for the following year (reinstatement possible upon meeting criteria again in a subsequent year). |
| Stackable with other awards | Cannot be combined with the BIMI Need-Based Bursary but may be combined with external scholarships (see below) |
2. BIMI Need-Based Bursary
Overview
The BIMI Need-Based Bursary supports students from demonstrably low-income families who have strong academic credentials but face genuine financial barriers to pursuing medical education. This award recognises that academic talent is not distributed by wealth — and that BIMI's social mission includes expanding access to students who would otherwise be unable to attend.
| Bursary Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Award Value | 15–30% reduction on annual tuition fees (level determined by financial assessment) |
| Number of Awards | Up to 8 per intake cohort |
| Eligibility | Minimum 70% PCB aggregate. Demonstrated financial need verified by income documentation. A compelling personal statement explaining financial circumstances and career motivation. |
| Application Method | Scholarship application form + Financial Need Assessment Form + income documentation (tax returns, salary slips, or equivalent for parent/guardian) |
| Decision Timeline | Within 21 days of complete application |
| Renewal Criteria | Annual re-submission of financial documentation. Academic performance minimum of 60% in annual examinations (passing all subjects). Good standing — no disciplinary record. |
| Stackable with other awards | Cannot be combined with the Academic Excellence Scholarship but may be combined with external scholarships |
3. BIMI Women in Medicine Scholarship
In recognition of the critical importance of gender equity in healthcare — and the specific barriers that female students from certain countries and communities face in pursuing medical education — BIMI offers a dedicated scholarship for female applicants who demonstrate both academic ability and personal commitment to using their medical career to improve women's and community health.
| Scholarship Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Award Value | 20% reduction on annual tuition for the first 3 years (Years 1–3) |
| Number of Awards | Up to 5 per intake cohort |
| Eligibility | Female applicants with minimum 75% PCB aggregate. Personal statement of 500 words addressing the student's vision for how her medical career will serve women's health or community health. |
| Application Method | Scholarship application form + personal statement |
| Renewal Criteria | Passing all annual examinations. Active participation in at least one BIMI community health or women's health outreach activity per academic year. |
4. BIMI Alumni Referral Scholarship
BIMI graduates are our strongest ambassadors. When a current BIMI graduate refers a student who subsequently enrols, both the referring graduate and the new student benefit.
• New Student Award: 10% reduction on first year's tuition.
• Referring Alumni Award: $200 cash award (paid after new student completes their first full semester).
• This award is in addition to any merit or need-based scholarship for which the new student may qualify independently.
• Referral must be formally registered before the new student's application is submitted. Retroactive referral claims will not be accepted.
5. Early Bird Discount
Students who submit a complete application (including all required documents) and pay the Seat Deposit by the Early Bird Deadline (May 31st for September intake) receive a 5% reduction on their first year's tuition fee. This discount is automatic upon confirmation of qualifying early application — no separate scholarship application is required.
6. Sibling Discount
Where two or more siblings from the same family are enrolled simultaneously at BIMI, each sibling receives a 10% reduction on their annual tuition fees for the duration of the period of simultaneous enrolment. Proof of sibship (birth certificates) must be submitted to the Finance Office. The discount applies to both/all siblings — not only the younger one.
7. External Scholarship Opportunities
BIMI actively supports students in identifying and applying for external scholarship funding from national governments, international organisations, and NGOs. The following external sources have been successfully accessed by BIMI students:
| Scholarship Source | Notes for BIMI Students |
|---|---|
| Government of Kyrgyz Republic — International Student Awards | The Kyrgyz Republic Ministry of Education occasionally offers tuition support for international students at licensed Kyrgyz institutions. Contact BIMI's International Relations office for current availability. |
| Bilateral Government Scholarships (various) | Many countries have bilateral education agreements with the Kyrgyz Republic. Check with your home country's Ministry of Education or Ministry of Foreign Affairs for current scholarship availability for study in Kyrgyzstan. |
| Aga Khan Foundation Educational Programmes | Open to students from certain countries. Merit and community service-based. Visit akdn.org for current programme details. |
| Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Scholarships | Available to students from OIC member states. Check the OIC website for current programmes including those supporting medical study. |
| Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Scholarship Programme | Merit and need-based scholarships for students from IsDB member countries pursuing science and technology degrees including medicine. Visit isdb.org for details. |
| African Union Scholarship Schemes | Various scholarship and grant programmes for African students pursuing higher education abroad. Contact your national Ministry of Education. |
| Erasmus+ (for eligible nationalities) | EU-funded mobility programme. Check current eligibility for Kyrgyzstan-based institutions at erasmus.eacea.ec.europa.eu. |
| Individual National Government Schemes | India: No central scheme for overseas medical scholarships currently available through the Ministry of Health. State-level schemes may apply — check with your home state. Pakistan: PEEF (Punjab Educational Endowment Fund) and HEC overseas scholarships — check current availability. Bangladesh: Various Ministry of Education schemes — check Bangladesh Ministry of Education website. |
| NGO & Foundation Scholarships | Several international health-focused foundations (e.g., Wellcome Trust, Gates Foundation, specific disease foundations) offer scholarships for students committed to global health careers. BIMI's Research Cell can assist students in identifying relevant opportunities. |
Installment Payment Plans (Not a Scholarship — Financial Management Tool)
For students who do not qualify for scholarships but face cash-flow challenges in meeting semesterly fee payments, BIMI's Finance Office offers structured quarterly and monthly payment plans for tuition fees. These plans do not reduce the total fee but spread the payments over more intervals to reduce the per-payment burden.
• Quarterly Plan: Tuition split into 4 equal payments per year (September, November, February, April).
• Monthly Plan: Available on request for eligible students demonstrating genuine financial need. Requires prior approval from the Finance Office and a signed payment plan agreement.
• A payment plan administration fee of $50 per year applies to quarterly and monthly plans.
• Missing a scheduled instalment payment results in a late payment surcharge and suspension of access to examination registration until the outstanding balance is cleared.
How to Apply for a BIMI Scholarship
Scholarship applications follow a simple process:
1. Download the BIMI Scholarship Application Form from bimiedu.com/scholarships.
2. Complete the relevant sections for the scholarship(s) you are applying for. You may apply for more than one scholarship simultaneously.
3. Gather the supporting documents specified for each scholarship (academic transcripts, NEET scorecard, income documentation, personal statement — as applicable).
4. Submit your completed scholarship application form and supporting documents by email to scholarships@bimiedu.com, OR upload through the Applicant Portal alongside your main application.
5. The Scholarship Committee will review your application and notify you of the outcome within the stated decision timeline.
6. If awarded a scholarship, the award amount will be reflected in your revised Offer Letter. The reduced fee must be paid by the stated deadlines — the scholarship amount is a reduction, not a separate cash disbursement.
Important Note on Scholarship Integrity
All scholarship applications are subject to verification. Income documentation will be cross-checked. Academic results will be verified against official sources. Any misrepresentation of financial status or academic achievement in a scholarship application will result in immediate withdrawal of the scholarship, possible withdrawal of admission, and reporting to relevant authorities.
If your financial circumstances change after receiving a need-based award (either improving or worsening), you are required to notify the Scholarship Committee within 30 days. BIMI reviews need-based awards annually on a good-faith basis.
