IT Support / Student Portal

Digital technology is central to the modern medical education experience. BIMI's Student Portal and IT infrastructure are designed to give students fast, reliable, and intuitive access to every aspect of their academic and administrative life — from anywhere in the world, at any time.

  The BIMI Student Portal

The BIMI Student Portal (portal.bimiedu.com) is the central digital hub for all enrolled students. It integrates academic, administrative, and communication functions into a single, secure, user-friendly platform. Every student receives a unique username and temporary password upon completing enrolment; this password must be changed at first login.

Mobile Application

The BIMI Student Portal is fully optimised for mobile access through the BIMI Student App, available for both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play). The app provides access to all core portal features including timetables, grades, library, messaging, and announcements. Push notifications ensure students never miss an important deadline, result release, or institutional announcement.

3.2  Campus Wi-Fi & Network Access

High-speed internet access is available throughout the BIMI campus, including all academic buildings, the library, the dormitory, the cafeteria, and all outdoor covered areas. BIMI operates two wireless networks:

•       BIMI-Academic: The primary secured Wi-Fi network for all students and staff. Requires login with Student Portal credentials. Provides full access to all licensed library databases and institutional systems.

•       BIMI-Guest: A public Wi-Fi network for campus visitors with general internet access. Does not provide access to restricted library or academic systems.

Students experiencing Wi-Fi connectivity issues should first attempt to log out and reconnect. Persistent issues should be reported to the IT Helpdesk via the Student Portal or by visiting the IT Support Office on the Ground Floor of the Main Academic Building.

3.3  Learning Management System (LMS)

BIMI uses a fully integrated Learning Management System (LMS) embedded within the Student Portal. The LMS is the primary digital platform through which all academic content is delivered and managed. Each enrolled module has a dedicated LMS page, managed by the module coordinator, containing:

•       Module handbook, learning objectives, and assessment criteria

•       Lecture slides and presenter notes (uploaded before or on the day of each lecture)

•       Recorded lecture videos (where applicable) accessible for 12 months from the date of recording

•       Required and recommended reading lists with direct links to library resources

•       Online quizzes, formative assessments, and self-assessment tools

•       Discussion forums for module-related queries and peer discussion

•       Assignment submission portals with automatic plagiarism detection (Turnitin integration)

•       Grade and feedback release

•       Announcements and updates from module coordinators

Turnitin & Academic Integrity

All written assignments submitted through the LMS are automatically processed by Turnitin, a market-leading academic integrity and plagiarism detection platform. Students receive an originality report for each submission. A submission with a Similarity Index above 20% (excluding references and direct quotations) will be flagged for manual review by the module coordinator. Students are encouraged to review their Turnitin reports carefully and ensure their work appropriately attributes all sources.

3.4  IT Helpdesk & Technical Support

The BIMI IT Helpdesk provides technical support to all students and staff. Support is available through the following channels:

•       Student Portal Ticket System: Raise a support ticket at any time through the IT Helpdesk module on the Student Portal. You will receive an automated confirmation with a ticket reference number. Standard response time: within 4 business hours. Resolution target: within 2 business days for most issues.

•       In-Person IT Support: The IT Support Office (Ground Floor, Main Academic Building) is staffed Monday–Friday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Walk-in support is available for urgent hardware and software issues.

•       Live Chat Support: Available through the Student Portal Monday–Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Chat with an IT support agent in real time.

•       IT Knowledge Base: A comprehensive self-help resource available 24/7 on the Student Portal containing step-by-step guides for all common IT issues. Accessible without login from the BIMI website homepage.
